Trouser Measurements

Waist

Measure around your waist at the height you prefer to wear your pants. Avoid pulling the tape too tightly. Wear trousers that fit well and measure around the waistband where they sit.

Hips

Stand with your feet hip-width apart and measure around the fullest part of your seat (buttocks), keeping the tape level. For men, this is typically around the hip bone level.

Thigh

Measure the circumference of your thigh at its widest point, usually near the top of the inseam. This is especially important for men with athletic builds or muscular thighs.

Trouser Length / Outseam

Measure from the top of where you want your trousers to sit on your waist down to the side of your ankle. Wear shoes similar to those intended for the outfit while measuring.

Trouser Length / Inseam

Measure vertically from the bottom of the crotch to the desired pant length along the inside seam. This typically ranges from 30" (short), 32" (regular), to 34" (long).

Coat Measurements

Chest

Stand up straight and measure around the fullest part of your chest at nipple level. Wrap the tape under the armpits and over the shoulder blades. This is your chest circumference.

Neck

Measure where your shirt collar would naturally sit. Use a well-fitted dress shirt for reference to get a precise neck circumference.

Sleeve Length

With your arm relaxed at your side, measure from the shoulder seam down to your wrist. This is typically from the top of the shoulder to the base of the thumb.

Shoulders

Measure across the back from the edge of one shoulder to the other, following the natural curve across the top. Use the sleeve seams of a good fitting shirt as a guide.

Coat Length

Measure from the shoulder seam (where it meets the collar) straight down to your desired jacket length. This typically falls around the wrist or mid-thigh for men.
